There are two main exceptions to paying property taxes. You may not have to pay property taxes directly if you are currently:
Paying off a Mortgage: Sometimes, your mortgage company pays your property taxes on your behalf. If this is the case, they will receive the property tax bill instead of you.
You are then only responsible for meeting your monthly mortgage payments.
This does not apply everyone paying off a mortgage, though, so be sure to consult your mortgage company if you are unsure.
Renting: If you rent or lease your property—personal or commercial—then the building’s owner receives the bill and pays the annual property taxes.
